About: Hatching eggs experience for schools. Allowing people who wouldn't normally have the chance to experience the magic of chicks hatching.

The hatching eggs experience is fully set up by our friendly staff, making it a very easy resource for staff. Everything needed to hatch and look after the chicks is provided. It is designed to be as easy as possible to use, to allow maximum time to enjoy the chicks and use the experience as a valuable learning resource. The chicks normally hatch within a day or so of the incubator being installed, and only the best eggs are selected to maximise the number of chicks hatched.

Installations are usually done on a Monday or Tuesday. The school usually keeps the chicks until the following week, although we can collect at the end of the first week by arrangement if this is preferred by the school.

We have full (£5m) public liability insurance as required by schools. All staff are CRB checked, and comprehensive instructions are provided, together with 24 hour telephone support. Risk assessment information is provided prior to the installation date and all equipment is PAT tested. Eggs are sourced from accredited egg producers, making the eggs we use safer than eggs from other sources as they are sold under a regulated, inspected and tested environment including being free from Salmonella. Only accredited eggs are used in our equipment so there is no possibility of contamination from eggs from elsewhere.

The chicks are rehomed afterwards. We care deeply about the welfare of our chicks. If a school wishes to keep the chicks this can be arranged provided we are satisfied the school is fully equipped and able to look after them as chicks and adults. We are happy to advise on this should a school wish to keep the chicks.

“The overall experience was amazing for all staff and children withing the school. The chicks became part of our school community. Allowing the children to have this experience and work with the chicks has massive educations benefits. We all absolutely loved it! Really easy for teachers to manage alongside the demands of teaching! Cant wait til next time!”

Mrs Bayley, Teacher , Dacre Braithwaite CE (VA) Primary School
