About: Direct Access Consultancy (DAC) was established in 2004 and has grown into a leading provider of disability access audits across the UK.

Led by Steven Mifsud, a former Disability Access Officer for the City of Chester. Direct Access enables schools to improve access for people with disabilities in the UK. Steven was born profoundly deaf and underwent a cochlear implant operation in 2012.

DAC are the only Access Consultancy run by disabled people, so we have first hand knowledge of the challenges that face our daily lives, resulting in expert advice.

Direct Access have undertaken disability access audits for over 650 educational establishments ranging from small primary schools to large secondary schools. We have also provided access audits for elite private education facilities such as The Dollar Academy in Scotland and are the access consultants for many Councils.

Not only is it a moral responsibility to provide disability access for pupils, staff members and visiting members of the public, it is also a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010.

Our education services range from access consultancy on the design of new schools and classrooms, to auditing of existing premises and project managing adaptations for a new pupil with specific access needs. Our access audits provide a snapshot of facilities in order to highlight where improvements are required, along with an action plan stating priorities.

“We recently commissioned Direct Access Consultancy LTD to undertake a disability audit of our primary school site as we wished to ensure that we met all necessary requirements of the Equality Act 2010. The audit was carried out by Steven Mifsud (Access Consultant and Director) who was very polite, pleasant and unobtrusive throughout his inspection. The audit was carrie rout at very short notice at our request and the report sent to us within 48 hours, again at our request. The report is extremely comprehensive and came with a suggested action plan for the improvement recommendations. We would gladly recommend Direct Access Consultancy Ltd and feel they provide a very efficient service.”

“We recently commissioned Direct Access Consultancy Ltd to undertake a disability access audit of our school site, to assist us in meeting the requirements of the Equality Act 2010. The audit was undertaken by Steven Mifsud (Access Consultant and Director). Steven carried out a very thorough survey of the school site and produced a comprehensive and professional report, detailing recommendations for improvement, I am more than happy to recommend the services of Direct Access Consultancy Ltd. Their prices are very competitive, and the disability access audit we received was extremely well written. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.”
